TOM CRUISE’s insistence on risking life and limb to perform his own stunts has backfired big time for his bosses on Mission: Impossible 6.
I can reveal a failed roof jump has left the action movie’s main man with two broken bones in his ankle.
His likely spell recovering from Sunday’s accident has now resulted in production being halted for four months.
A film insider said: “The injury is worse than was at first feared. Tom did serious damage and will need months to recover.
“He is the film’s biggest star and everything revolves around him. The movie’s bosses had no choice other than to postpone the filming.”
Tom is pictured tackling the stunt at Blackfriars, central London, crashing into a building then doubling up as he is helped by medics who treated him at the scene.
After X-rays revealed the extent of the damage, he is now expected to head home to the US for treatment.
His injury has not only played havoc with the movie’s tight schedule, it will also hit the Mission: Impossible franchise’s finances, owing to major rescheduling of filming and when it will be out.
The planned summer 2018 release date is likely to be pushed back, with Christmas next year now the obvious target.
Tom’s action sequences had been given a huge build-up by Mission: Impossible series producer David Ellison.
Speaking in March, he said: “What Tom is doing in this movie I believe will top anything that’s come before.
“It is absolutely unbelievable — he has been training for a year. It’s gonna be mind-blowing.”
And bone-crunching.

Now Beeb looking for holiday love
ITV’s hit Love Island spawned a new batch of reality stars to fill up showbiz parties.
Now the BBC is following suit by launching an online show featuring youngsters looking for summer romances.
Croatia 2017: The Brits Are Coming kicks off on BBC3’s YouTube channel on Monday.
It will centre around the debauched holiday antics of youngsters in Europe’s hottest new party resort of Novalja.
Cameras will follow a lad hoping to end a love triangle, a girl on her first break abroad, wannabe DJs heading out to try to land their first proper gig and a soldier who has spent two months living with his parents to save up for the trip.
Hopefully it’s better than Channel 5’s Make or Break.
Harry Styles snubs Teen Choice Awards despite EIGHT nominations
RITA ORA came in peace to the Teen Choice Awards– but that couldn’t be said for everyone.
Despite being nominated for eight gongs, HARRY STYLES snubbed Sunday’s bash in LA, as did MILEY CYRUS, who cancelled at the last minute after blaming her “unrealistic schedule”.
Harry’s former bandmate LOUIS TOMLINSON did make it though and performed with BEBE REXHA.
CAT DEELEY added glam to the blue carpet while VANESSA HUDGENS posed with TV dog Happy and CHRIS PRATT made his first public appearance since announcing his split from wife ANNA FARIS last week.
If anyone had an excuse for a no-show, it’s Chris.
Amber alert for Jesy
TOWIE’s CHRIS CLARK became LITTLE MIX fans’ enemy No1 after I revealed he dumped JESY NELSON by text.
And he could be about to cement his villainous status after admitting he used his new girlfriend AMBER DOWDING’s phone to do the deed last April.
In an exclusive chat while filming ITVBe’s The Only Way Is Marbs special, Chris revealed: “I used Amber’s phone to do it. I was never going to escape it. I had to just deal with it.
“She was on the other side of the world. I am happier now than I ever have been.”
Telly co-star Amber added: “All I can say on Chris’s behalf is that it wasn’t done in a negative way.
“He wasn’t 100 per cent in the relationship and he had to end it when he ended it and that was that. In life you have to be selfish sometimes.”
Meanwhile, Chris’s brother and co-star JON has embarked on a new romance with the returning LAUREN POPE.
The pair had a late-night kiss they tried to keep secret and have been on intimate dinner dates in the Spanish party town.
I somehow doubt they’ll be heading down the aisle.
Liam Payne stuns shoppers by busking on Oxford Street
HE’S used to performing in front of millions in sell-out arena tours with ONE DIRECTION.
But LIAM PAYNE gave his most low-key gig ever yesterday – busking on London’s Oxford Street.
He stunned shoppers as he performed his latest single Get Low alongside producer ZEDD.
A huge crowd quickly gathered and Liam lapped it up – dancing around the circle and going up to onlookers in the crowd.
Though after the song, they hopped back in a car – and it was for one day only.
